AJC Mourns Death of Former Associate Executive Director Selma Hirsh
February 1, 2010 - New York - AJC mourns the passing of Selma Hirsh, who served the global advocacy organization for five decades, beginning in 1945, in our New York headquarters. A dynamic woman of grace, elegance and wisdom, Selma fulfilled a series of key roles at AJC during a critical time in American Jewish history, culminating as AJC Associate Executive Director from 1972-1982. After retiring, she continued her involvement with the agency as a co-founder of AJC’s Institute on American Jewish – Israeli Relations, and also in her association with AJC’s Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights. The strength of AJC today is due in large measure to her dedication and leadership. We extend our condolences to her daughters and to all members of the mourning family.
